In this first report, we discuss two important themes that we believe deserve extra attention
in the repatriation and integration process of children returning from the detention camps
set in Northeast Syria. The report is based on what we have learned over the past three years
from our observations, reflections, (game) activities, informal conversations and interviews
with children, youth, mothers, grandparents, families, teachers and caregivers during our
participation in the reception, guidance and (re)integration of 28 of the 32 returning Belgian
children and teenagers.

In dit eerste rapport bespreken we twee belangrijke thema’s die volgens ons extra aandacht
verdienen bij de repatriëring en integratie van kinderen die terugkeren uit de detentiekampen
in Noordoost Syrië. Het rapport is gebaseerd op hetgeen we de voorbije drie jaar leerden uit
onze observaties, reflecties, (spel)activiteiten, informele gesprekken en interviews met
kinderen, jongeren, moeders, grootouders, families, leerkrachten en zorgverleners tijdens
onze deelname aan de opvang, begeleiding en (re)-integratie van 28 van de 32 teruggekeerde
Belgische kinderen en jongeren.

Dans ce premier rapport, nous traitons de deux thèmes importants qui requièrent selon nous
une attention particulière lorsqu’on aborde le rapatriement et la réintégration des enfants
lors de leur retour depuis les camps de détention du nord-est de la Syrie. Ce rapport est basé sur ce que nous avons appris au travers de nos observations ces trois dernières années par le
biais d’activités (de jeux), de conversations informelles, d’interviews d’enfants, d’adolescent.e.s, de mères, de grands-parents, de familles, d’enseignant.e.s et de prestataires de soins lors de l’accueil, l’accompagnement et la (ré-)intégration de 28 des 32 enfants et adolescent.e.s belges rapatrié.e.s.
